crafted and engineered by creative and talented shed
builders, who had spent weeks, months and even
years shaping, constructing, adapting and tuning
their personalised Chitty Chitty Bang Bangs. Some
polished and pristine. Others gnarly and distressed.
But all reflected a unique personality.
This time I knew what to expect when I lined
up at the start line. The rise of adrenaline fuelled
anticipation and a symphony of gurgling motors.
The sand vibrated with energy. The flag dropped.
I snapped the throttle open and careered down the
beach with a face full of sand and a dousing of salt
water. Within seconds I passed the chequered flag
and, in fear of being propelled to Hull, I shut off the
power and reined my beast back. It was brilliant.
The intermittent roar of engines and the inaudible
squawk of the tannoy awakened the residents of
