bike that would look very much
like the bobber Craig had built.
Bod fitted the weld-on hardtail
but before he’d even put down the
welding torch, Dave was already
firing ideas at him as he explains:
“My imagination ran riot, building
lots of different versions in my
head of the bike using all my Bullet
parts. During the dry build, I tried
out some of the ideas, took some
photos for reference—and decided
that we should try and build all of
the different bikes in one go!”
Suddenly, instead of the
(relatively) simple build ahead
of him, Bod found himself
surrounded by two sets of
different sized wheels, various
mudguards, seats, exhausts,
yokes, petrol tanks and many
other parts. But he and the rest
of the Bod’s Custom Cycles crew
rose to the challenge, even if
they must have spent the timedreading the door opening and
Dave appearing to say, “I’ve had
another idea!” Dave explains the
motivation and inspiration behind
this version of his Enfield, “I’ve
always had a love of hot rod cars
and bikes, old sports bikes, cafe
racers, trials, speedway, board
track, drag and sprint bikes,
customs. This is the ‘65’ version
you see here of the Royal Enfield
and, in my mind, it came from
a mix of sprint, speedway and a
cafe bobber! I did feel I needed a
brake light and a mirror as a nod
to safety, though. I have another
bike with lights for night rides.
“Why ‘65’? Well, the bike just
named itself, really. It’s an Enfield
Bullet Sixty-5. I was born in 1965
and then there’s the speed of
65mph which you don’t want to
go over for long if you want the
engine to last!”
You may have noticed that I said“THAT WAS MY ORIGINAL PLAN, JUST TO BUILD THAT
BEAUTIFUL BOBBER. THEN MY MIND WENT INTO OVERDRIVE...”
