PENFOLD’S TRIKE
Penfold is no stranger to three wheels having ridden VW trikes for twenty years.
However, he’s finally been converted to the dark allure of the mighty V8. His trike
also comes with history, having originally been built in the mid-1990s in Scotland.
Around ten years later it was extensively modified by Sooty’s Customs for the
previous owner before it eventually came into Penfold’s hands. It runs a Rover V8
from a late model SD1 with twin SU carbs to a narrowed Jaguar XJS back axle
with inboard discs via a Jag 3-speed automatic gearbox. At the opposite end is a
leading link front end with Spax shocks and a billet front wheel with Jaguar disc
and caliper. To suit the needs of Chopper Club long distance touring, Penfold has
started a further round of modification on the trike with new custom-built Gaz
shocks and a capacious (ie, large!) luggage rack.
