and an electronically operated
handbrake. Those 20-inch rear
wheels are a bit special, too; they
are more often seen as a high-
dollar option on an export Range
Rover Evoque and are believed
to be the only ones in Europe.
What’s more, this pair were made
with a custom 20mm offset for
Lee, as they usually have a 40mm
offset. The low profile tyres are
Accelera 275/35 x 20-inchers.
As I mentioned before, the
front half of the bike is all stock
VN1600, including the engine and
gearbox, so all the funky custom
stuff is mostly at the back. That
includes the Fastrike-designed
four-can exhaust and those super
wide rear mudguards, while the
delta shaped rear luggage rack is
fabricated from steel tubing. Lee
couldn’t help but add the verticalrear fin as a finishing touch,
complete with the XH558 serial
number. XH558 is the number on
The Spirit of Great Britain, the
last airworthy example of the 138
Avro Vulcans built. It was also
the last Vulcan in military service
and the last to fly at all after 1986
and has been the subject of a
private painstaking restoration- you might have caught the
excellent television programme
about it, one of Guy Martin’s
post-TT adventures. Probably
the most eye-catching feature,
though, is the superb green and
grey camouflage paintwork, again
replicating XH558 and including
the plane’s name. Sterling stuff,
indeed. That excellent paintwork
is the handiwork of Steve Cook at
Vehicle Repairs at Finkley near
Andover and is made all the better
by all the military and safety
