Borderlands 2 provides a strange mix of past and
present on page 96 this month, as we try the new
DLC for the now five-year-old game, released to
bridge the gap between it and its upcoming sequel.
Is it a good enough reason to return to the classic
shooter, or just a half-cocked chunk of marketing?
Found out over the page... Also in Now Playing,
we’re still banging our heads against whip-smart
roguelike Dead Cells (p98) and its endless,
procedurally generated corridors. And, ahead of the
release of the series’ new prequel, we’ve loaded up
prettified re-release Darksiders Warmastered
Edition (p99) to see how well the game stands
up today against its obvious influences. Over in
our Retrospective, we take a look at the flawed
treasure that is Brute Force (p100), a plucky squad-
based shooter that dared to follow in the footsteps
of Halo: Combat Evolved... and paid the price.
Then we’re preaching of our passion for bothering
random NPCs, from schoolyard nerds to Wild West
frontiersmen, with Why I Love Rockstar’s Social
Interactions on page 104. And finally, we cash out
our paychecks and gather up our loyalty cards for a
shopping spree through the 10 Best Stores On
Xbox (p106), from supermarkets to gun vendors to
Ozzy Osbourne’s chop shop underneath a volcano.
