Revenge! I’m here for it.
Now, let’s crank up Brooke,
Ridge, Bill, Katie, Eric,
Quinn, Wyatt and Sally to
restore some much-needed
balance to this show.
■ Balance is actually an
important component to
a good payoff. The more
prongs in a denouement, the
better. GH fans are clamoring
for an end to the Wiley baby
switch but I like the methodi-
cal pacing of this story. The
truth could come from Nelle,
Brad, the DNA test Shiloh
ordered, the medical records
Shiloh gave Lucas and Brad,
or walking time bomb Liesl
Obrecht, who’s always on the
edge.
Obrecht (re: Michael think-
ing his son is dead): “It all
makes me feel guilty.”
Brad: “You’re capable of
■ When soaps keep a secret
for a long time, the payoff has
to explode. But first, let’s define
payoff...
■ B&B’s baby reveal! I’m
not going to rehash the torture
of watching them tell a sad
story for seven months with
people we barely knew to the
detriment of almost every
core character on the canvas
because the outcome was, to
quote myself in a previous col-
umn, boffo.
Liam (to Hope): “It’s a long,
awful story.”
You can say that again.
But B&B did everything
right with the reveal, having
people find out one by one
until Douglas overheard his
violent father say, “Phoebe
is Beth,” and then repeated it
to anyone who would listen.
Fortunately, Liam did. He
rescued Hope from Thomas,
told her the truth about
her “dead” baby, and then
escorted her to Steffy’s house
where they broke the news
that the baby Steffy’s mother
bought for her (!) was actu-
ally stolen from Hope.
Steffy: “I’m her mother.”
Hope: “This is Beth.”
Taylor’s culpability would
have been so much more
effective if she’d been on the
canvas for this vile deceit, but
Thomas being in on it was a
powerful punch in the gut to
Steffy and the sanctimonious
Ridge.
Flo: “Thomas has known for
months.”
Ridge: “This is insane. My
son is a good guy!”
How would Ridge know?
He hasn’t spent more than
10 minutes with that recast
psychopath since Thomas
returned in March. The best
was Brooke unleashing her
fury on the liars who kept the
truth from Hope.
Brooke: “What about you,
Zoe? Or you, Shauna? Wasn’t
anybody going to tell my
daughter the truth?”
Zoe (fake crying): “I’m so
sorry.”
Brooke (to Zoe and Flo):
