bout ten years ago at the

Goodwood Festival of

Speed, I sat in Gardner

Douglas’s orange T70 demo

car and thought it was

wonderful. At the time, I had a Westfield

that I’d built myself and the T70 was firmly

in the category of ‘dream car’. It was one of

those ‘if only’ and ‘one day’ moments.

While I appreciate the Cobras Gardner

Douglas offers, it was always the T70 for

me. The combination of swoopy ’60s

bodywork, modern suspension and safety

features, allied to a mighty modern LS V8,

seemed magical to me.

The trouble was I didn’t have a spare £50k,

so there was no point in having a serious talk

about a purchase with the GD team. But it

definitely planted a seed...

Fast forward ten years and my journalist

business is covering the bills a little better

and I’ve worked my way up through various

hot cars including two TVR Cerberas, a

Vauxhall Red Top-equipped Sylva Stylus

and a 190bhp 600kg Fisher Fury sprint car

which I loved and kept for about eight years.

In July 2015, my mate Mark was looking

to build a Cobra and wanted to know what

I reckoned. So a few weeks later I found

myself at GD’s base chatting away to the
