Honda Civic Type R
King of the hot hatchbacks, the Civic Type R is
e n ga g i n g at mo s t s p e e d s but r e a l l y c ome s a l i v e
when you’re trying to go quickly. It’s exceptionally
rapid for a front-wheel-drive car. In fact, it takes a
£70,000 Renault to go faster.
Lotus Elise
Big things are happening incredibly quickly at Lotus but, at the
moment, the best thing about the company remains its little thing. With
a lightweight body sitting on top of a lightweight chassis and with a
lightweight engine behind the occupants, the Elise is an absolute joy
today, just as the first version was when it was introduced in 1996.
Range Rover Evoque
The latest Range Rover Evoque picks up where
the last one left off, in terms of its style and its
ethos, but now it comes with a vastly improved
set of abilities off road and, more important, on it.

Ford Mustang
The Mustang wasn’t made for small roads like
ours, but it works on them remarkably well. It’s
available with a four-cylinder engine but, honestly,
when you can have a V8, why wouldn’t you?
Dacia Duster
If you want a small SUV on a budget, Dacia is your
friend. The mechanicals are largely rehashed from
Renaults and it is clearly built to a price, but that is,
i n a w ay, pa r t of t he c h a r m. A nd it ’s go o d of f r oa d.

Seat Arona
It’s a compact
crossover and I hate
compact crossovers
- the most pointless
cars on sale, which fail
