You’ve been framed!
She likes nature scenes and loves
to experiment with the frames
around her photos, says Madelein
Marais of George.
“I love photography and I especially
love nature scenes. I also like to
play with different frames around
my photos, like this one I took on
Wilderness’s beach.”
The framing of a photo can play a
vital role, so much so it becomes
part of the composition.
Madelein’s photo is a good
example of this. Without the
frame, the photo would attract less
attention. If you look at it from a
distance, the frame is just about
the first thing you notice; it almost
works like a focus point to direct
your attention to the content of
the photo. When you look closer,
you see a couple’s silhouettes in
the background, which is what
the photo’s actual focal point is.
Because the frame is also black
(just like the figures and the rocky
sections), your eye constantly
jumps between the three elements
as you look further into the photo
and enjoy the rest of the detail.
