In areas with increasingly hot, dry summers, choosing plants with low
water requirements, such as Caucasian cornfl ower (Centaurea bella)
from Lambley Nursery, helps to ensure a fl ourishing garden. It features
long stems, each topped with an amethyst-pink fl ower, along with low,
clump-forming, greyish leaves. Allow for growth 30cm high by 40cm
wide. Plant in full sun with other drought-hardy perennials, such as
Echinops spp., blue-fl owered irises and lavenders. lambley.com.au

Also new to the Princess Lilies
ange, Alstroemeria ‘Mulan’ has
ong-fl owering blue-and-lavender
icolour blooms with distinctive
markings. This plant looks striking
rowing underneath white rose
ushes, and is also ideal for pots,
eaching only 30cm high by 40cm
wide, with a compact habit. When
icking the fl owers, it’s best to
wist and pull them from the base,
s this encourages the plant to
roduce more blooms. They will
ast about two weeks in a vase.

A new release in the Princess Lilies range of
dwarf alstroemerias, Alstroemeria ‘Katiana’
features bright red, lily-like fl owers atop green
leaves that are edged with white. Flowering
from spring to autumn, it has a compact habit
(30cm high by 40cm wide), making it ideal
for potted gardens and low borders. Grow
plants in full sun or part shade, providing
adequate moisture during hot weather. When
planted in the garden, Princess Lilies multiply
and spread slowly with their tuberous,
fl eshy, underground roots. The plants are
drought-tolerant once established.
