GetaheadstartwithsummerflowerssuchasCaliforniapoppies,alyssum,
petuniasandsalviasbysowingseeds.Investinagoodseed-raisingmix
ormakeyourownmixtureusingcoarsesand,sievedcompostandcoirpeat.
Agoodtipistostartbyspreadingalayerofmoistenedsphagnummossbeneath
themixtoholdextramoisture.Readseedpacketscarefully,takingspecialnote
ofthesowingdepth,andsowasperinstructions.Placetheseedtrayinalightly
shadedspotandwaterwithamistsprayerwhenrequired.Aftertheygerminate,
separatecrowdedseedlingsintoindividualpunnetsectionsandfeedevery
weekwithhalf-strengthliquidplantfooduntilthey’rereadyforplantingout.
Waituntilthesoiliswarmtosowsummerflowerswithlargerseeds,suchas
cosmos,zinniasandsunflowers,directlyintogardenbeds.
