BUILD THE TOPS
Hardboard “skins”
provide a smooth, tough sur-
face for the large and small
tops. Cut the top bases and
skins slightly oversize, and
then glue the skins to the
bases. When the glue is dry,
cut the tops to finished size.
Attach the edging using glue
and clamps.

ATTACH STAYS
TO TOPS
Glue and screw the top stays
to the underside of both
tops. The stays on the large
top lock the two cabinets in
their open position. The small
top stays lock the cabinets in
their closed position and pre-
vent the top from sliding.

INSTALL
SASH LOCKS
To hold the cabinets together,
install sash locks on the hinge
panel cover strips 6 in. from
the bottom of both sides of
the cabinets.

15

ADD THE SHELF
Drop the shelf into
place, slipping the shelf
brackets behind the shelf
hangers. This addition makes
the bench very rigid.
