Australian Camera – September-October 2019

(National Geographic (Little) Kids) #1
SLive view screen can also be
extensively customised, including
read-outs, guide grid, level
indicator, focusing scale
and real-time histogram.

S ‘AF-C Custom’ menu provides
five scenarios for fine-tuning focus
tracking via three parameters plus
the option of creating a custom
setting.

S Handy ‘Info Display’ includes
camera settings, a real-time
histogram and focus point
indicator.

S Menu system is well-designed
and logically-arranged, but there’s
no touch controllability here.

S Replay/review options include a full set of histograms or thumbnails with two pages of capture data.
Thumbnail has a brightness warning and a focus point(s) indicator.

S ‘Quick Menu’ screen is
extensively customisable, and
enables direct access to the
selected functions. Touch control
makes it even more efficient.

FUJIFILM GFX

especially as full-res continuous
shooting is possible at 5.5 fps, 4
recording is at either 30 or 25fp
and the EVF refreshes at 85fps
There’s a huge amount of data
being processed when the GFX
100 is in full flight. Needlessto
note, there’s a pair of memoryc
slots, supporting the SD format
to 512 GB capacity and theUHS
and Video Speed Class V90data
transfer rates.
For the in-camera processing
of JPEGs, the GFX 100 has
everything that you’d also find
on the X-T3... a total of 16 ‘Film
Simulation’ profiles (including
ACROS, Classic Chrome and
Eterna/Cinema); ‘Grain Effect’,
‘Colour Chrome Effect’ and
‘Smooth Skin Effect’ processing
‘Lens Modulation Optimiser’
processing (which corrects
for diffraction blur when using
small aperture settings), six auto
bracketing modes (for exposure,
ISO, white balance, dynamic range,
the ‘Film Simulation’ presets
and focus), flicker detection and
reduction, a double exposure
facility, and an intervalometer.
The ‘Film Simulation’ profiles have
global adjustments for colour
saturation, sharpness, highlight
tone and shadow tone. The B&W
‘Film Simulation’ presets swap
the colour saturation adjustment

for yellow, red or green contrast-
control filters, plus there’s
‘B&W Adjustment’ which dials in
progressively more sepia or blue
toning over ten steps.
There are corrections for high-
ISO and long exposure noise,
and dynamic range expansion

processing which follow Fujifilm’s
convention of being labelled 100%,
200% and 400% – or an automatic
correction which assesses the
brightness range in the scene
and tweaks both the exposure
and the tone curve accordingly.
Additionally, three ‘D Range
Priority’ settings (first introduced
on the X-H1) are available as a

‘one-stop’ alternative method
of controlling contrast, and this
flattens the tone curve. There’s the
choice of Weak or Strong settings,
or Auto (which switches between
the two, according the scene’s
contrast), and ‘D Range Priority’
overrides any manual adjustments
you’ve made to either Dynamic
Range or Highlight/Shadow Tone.
