VIJAYCHAATHOUSE^7
Cool off at this family-run
joint with a glass of Indore’s
version of shikanji, a far cry
from the lemony, masala-infused
drink found in North India.
This one is a combination of milk,
shrikhand, dry fruits and rabdi.
The shikanji here goes well
with another local specialty,
kopra pattice, a deep-fried
snack made with potato,
dry coconut, dry fruit and
watermelon seeds (00 -91-731-
253-0253; 75/5, Bada Sarafa;
8.30am – 9.30pm, closed
every alternate Thur; shikanji:
60,koprapattice:16).

56 DUKAN 8
Skip dining at a restaurant
and grab dinner here instead;
it’s as local as it gets. Home to
over a hundred food stalls and
eateries, 56 Dukan gets its name
from the 56 stores that originally
formed the market. From breakfast
staples such as poha to burger-
like hotdogs, egg mutton banjos
and cold coffee, expect to find
an impressive range of stalls

JOSHIKADAHI
BADAHOUSE 9
Eating at Joshi’s makes for
the perfect Instagram post.
The owner Om Prakash Joshi
flips the badas high in the air
with flair, before dunking them
into homemade, creamy
yoghurt. He ends the show
by sprinkling his secret spice
mix generously over the dahi
badas (24, Bada Sarafa;
dahi bada: ` 50).

SIDETRIP
In case your inner shopaholic
isn’t quite satisfied with all that
Indore has to offer, a trip to
Maheshwari is sure to do
the trick. A centre of handloom
weaving since the 5th century,
this town is roughly 100km away
from Indore, making it easily
accesible via road. Dupattas,
scarves and brightly-coloured saris
sold here make for great souvenirs.
Cushions and bedcovers are also
available, in case you want to give
your home a makeover.
