Model Airplane International – September 2019

(Marcin) #1
which you can see in detail within this issue) and we
have to say that we are impressed by the results,
if not –– entirely –– the path the kit takes you on to
completion of these important areas!
Along with the Hellcat, we also have another
long and involved review, this time of the very
impressive, Zvezda 1:48 Yak-130. Over the last few
years, Zvezda have emerged as one of the most
progressive manufacturers in the business, each
subsequent kit building on a reputation for quality
and value for money. The Yak is certainly up there
with the very best in this scale, the levels of detail,
fi nesse and accuracy, being very impressive. Nigel
Poole has taken a look at our sample and drawn
the conclusion that it might already be his ‘kit of the
year’ which speaks volumes I think.
Along with these lengthy features we also take a
look at the excellent Airfi x 1:48 P-51D and then have
some fun with a timed, one-day build. As kids, I am
sure than may of us would have run to the shops
to spend our pocket money on a cheap plastic kit,
build it over an afternoon and then look forward to

the following weekend. As time has passed by, kits
have become more complex and the time needed
to complete each one, longer and more sporadic
as life and all of its constraints has put pressure
on our free time. That being so, following Mike
Williams’ build of his 1:48 Fw190 last month, we
thought we would have a go at another ‘quick build’
this time spending one day instead of two on our
kit. Our victim this month is the delightful Revell
1:72 Me Bf109F, a kit that is as simple as you can
get, but detailed enough to still create a model
worth admiring once complete. As you will read, the
model was built over one single day (just over ten
hours), charted online, and then photographed once
complete. We had a lot of fun approaching a model
in this way and felt that it was the perfect antidote
to far more involved projects - the Hellcat, included!
We hope that you enjoy reading about out little
project in this issue.
This then is the September issue of Model
Airplane International. We hope that you enjoy it and
that we see you next month. ■
