SCALE WONDERS AT THE

SALISBURY MODEL SHOW 2019

U

nder an unseasonal blazing British
summer, modellers once again
fl ocked to Salisbury. Ignoring the
heat, they made their way to the
IPMS Salisbury show to look, chat
and of course grab some bargains.
For modellers on the south coast of the
UK the IPMS Salisbury model show is a
must attend event. I can’t recall how long I
have been going to the show, but every year
it gets better – and hotter, which was due to
the remarkable British summer that occurred
on the same weekend. Held on June 1, at
Wyvern College, Laverstock, the show is now
spread across two halls, giving space for 20
clubs and ten traders to display. The larger
event was obviously a hit, as more than 400
members of the public attended this year.

The reputation of the Salisbury show
drew clubs from across the area with
members keen to display their latest
builds. Among those attending were Poole
Vikings, Hornchurch Model Club, Mendip
Modellers, Romsey Modellers, Russian
Wheels & Tracks SIG, French Air Force
SIG, Mirage SIG, Great War SIG, Dorset
& Wiltshire IPMS, Asian Air Arms SIG and
West Middlesex Scale Model Club to name
just a few.
There were plenty of bargains to be had
under the club tables, as modellers off-loaded
some of their stashes which were eagerly
snapped up by others. By midday most
visitors could be seen carry a number of
carrier bags full of bargain kit purchases.
Traders were also doing a brisk trade with

a number of new releases out a few days
prior to the show and being sold at a discount

  • what’s not to like about the event?
This year, IPMS Salisbury arranged an
    in-house competition sponsored by Revell
which included a host of entries from
across their model range. From tanks, to
Black Bess, from Pirates of the Caribbean.
    I particularly liked the 1:48 F-105G
    Thunderchief entry, which displayed a
    stunningly delicate airbrush fi nish.
Once again, IPMS Salisbury showed that
they know how to organise and run a model
show. From members who oversaw the
parking, through to the refreshments, it was
a great demonstration of how it can be done,
for the enjoyment of all. Well done IPMS
    Salisbury!

Greg Woodbridge always has an impressive display of models at the Salisbury show. This year was no exception and included this
1:48 F-4J Phantom in the colours of VF-103 ‘Sluggers’ from Carrier Air Wing Three.
