Chevy High Performance – November 2019

NOVEMBER 2019 II CHEVY HIGH PERFORMANCE 57

02 | Here’s a look at what was in the box shipped directly from Aldan American. The set of coilovers is
for the front, the set of shocks are for the rear (due to the factory leaf springs), and the spanner wrench is
for easy coilover adjustment. Aldan’s coilover shocks are available in a huge array of lengths, adjustability,
and sizes to fit just about any car or truck on the road. These impressive pieces come backed with Aldan’s
Forever Guarantee and are made right here in the USA from lightweight, high-strength 6061-T6 billet
aluminum.

04 | To start
the removal
of the factory
suspension
components,
the top shock
bolt was
loosened and
removed.

06 | The bottom shock bolts were then removed
and the shock was free to be pulled from the bottom
through the control arm.

07 | A floor jack was then placed underneath
the lower control arm, while the lower ball joint is
broken loose. The castle nut holding the ball joint
was not removed completely, as to allow safe,
steady lowering of the lower arm with the floor
jack. This car was previously upgraded with a front
antisway bar and it was disconnected at this point.

03 | Before anything was removed from the ’55,
a measurement of front ride height was recorded
in order to set the Aldan American coilovers to the
exact same level after the installation is completed.

05 | Next, the
brake caliper was
unbolted and
hung from a wire
as to avoid any
damaging strain
on the brake
hoses. There are
different methods
of supporting the
caliper during
the length of
the installation
process, but
whatever you do,
don’t just leave the
caliper dangling.

08 | After slowly lowering the floor jack, the
tension of the coil spring was taken out of play and
then removed from the pocket in the control arm.
