Miles Stone: The Kingston
Maurward Garden was designed
by Michelle Brown and created to
celebrate 70 years of land-based
education at Kingston Maurward College
in Dorset. Inspired by the college’s
beautiful plant collection, Michelle
constructed a romantic showpiece
using woodland, meadow and edge
plants such as Fagus sylvatica ‘Purple
Fountain’, Acorus, Anethum, Mentha,
Hakonechloa, Dryopteris, Polypodium,
Aquilegia, Digitalis and Viola.

The Donkey Sanctuary: Donkeys
matter was designed by Christina Williams and
Annie Prebesen to celebrate 50 years of improving
the lives of donkeys and the people who depend
on them. The garden is built around a well with a
cleverly designed bucket system. I loved this garden
for its Mediterranean look, beautiful textures, gorgeous
planting combinations, crazy paving and a rustic timber
shelter providing shade. Dry region plants such as
Eryngium bourgatii, Iris ‘Langport Wren’, alliums and
Lavandula angustifolia ‘Hidcote’ add sparkles of colour.
