Indoor workouts
AT THIS TIME of year, it can seem like we spend
most of our time indoors, sheltering under
the air conditioning and desperately trying toescape the heat (unless we’re lounging in a
pool, of course).
So despite living in a city where they areso many cool places to workout, run, cycle
and swim outdoors, right now most of us arechoosing to bring our exercise regime inside.
But this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, asAbu Dhabi is packed with studios offering
every possible different type of workout.
Whether you want to de-stress with anintense boxing class or chill out and stretch
with some yoga, here you can do everypossible form of Àtness class without having
the leave the cool studios (but you’ll still workup a sweat, don’t worry).
So take a look at our favourite places to
workout indoors, and make sure you pay thema visit while the weather is still scorching.
Adrenagy Training Club
While some of Abu Dhabi’s best gyms aresmall, boutique-style workout centres, this
Khalifa Park gym is a huge labyrinth of
countless workout rooms and Àtness studios. In addition to the main gym, there’s also an
enormous ladies-only Áoor, complete withevery type of Àtness machine you can imagine.
The state-of-the art boxing ring and trainingarea might sound intimidating, but the martial
arts classes are really quite the opposite. The
expert trainers are especially good at passingon their skills in a safe, accessible and
engaging way, and there are also classes andprogrammes in functional training, cardiocore
and strength. There’s also an awesome caféright at the centre of it, so you don’t have to go
far to refuel once you’ve Ànished working up a
sweat. Adrenagy Café serves protein shakes, mains like grilled salmon and chicken and
much more.O Khalifa Park, Salem Street (02 444 1121).Bodyism
This swish Àtness centre is found at the very
beautiful Jumeirah at Saadiyat Island Resort, and it’s just as pretty and fancy as the rest of
this sensational hotel. With shiny studios andonly the best equipment, the classes cover
barre, Pilates, yoga, boxing, and also somespecially created Bodyism classes too. For
instance, Blueprint mixes interval training with
yoga, Pilates and stretching (it sounds a bitodd, but it works, believe us), while Warrior is
a high intensity circuit workout. With friendlyinstructors, and a gorgeous setting not far the
blue Gulf, going to the gym here is like beingon holiday (well, almost). Plus, if you sign up
before the end of September, you can make
the most of the discounted summer rates.O Jumeirah at Saadiyat Island Resort, Saadiyat Island
