At this stage, I also painted the canopy. This was
previously masked with Eduard masks from the
outside and Montex masks from the inside. As the
latter are made of foil which has a tendency to peel
off from rounded surfaces, I also had to apply Solid
Scale’s ‘Liquidscale’ fluid here and there.

Now I had to deal with the control
surfaces. Once I’d removed the masking
fluid from the ailerons, I masked the
adjacent areas with Tamiya tape.

This allowed me to add the
shadows, highlights and some
further discolouration, in order
to give the surfaces a more 3D
appearance. These were created
by airbrushing Tamiya’s XF-60
‘Dark Yellow’, XF-15 ‘Flat Flesh’
and XF-55 ‘Deck Tan’ with
different intensity.

The wheel wells and inner surfaces of the flaps were painted with ‘Aotake’ colour from
Mr.Hobby range.

The demarcation of the anti-glare panel was masked with
Tamiya ‘Masking Tape for Curves’, whilst the adjacent
areas were covered with pieces of standard Tamiya tape.
A layer of masking fluid was applied over the windscreen.
The shape of the anti-glare panel was determined on the
basis of the relevant decals supplied with the kit.

The basecoat was applied with Mr.Hobby H12 ‘Flat Black’. Next, I added some highlights and meandering lines with a mixture of the base colour and H44 ‘Flesh’.
