CBD

What’s in it for you?

It’s the biggest health trend in years, but should you be buying into it?

What is it?
‘CBD is short for cannabidiol,
which is one of more than 120
compounds found in cannabis,’
explains Kim Smith, founder
of Kloris CBD. According to
a study from the European
Journal of Pain, it has a relieving
effect on arthritic discomfort
and other research* has found
it can ease symptoms of anxiety,
stress and depression, as well
as helping with menopausal
symptoms (in particular aiding
sleep and mood regulation).
Another study, from the
University of Colorado School of
Medicine, found that it soothes the
itching of certain skin conditions
such as eczema. So what makes
it such a wonder ingredient?
‘All mammals, including humans,
have something called an
endocannabinoid system (ECS),
which is part of our central nervous
system,’ explains Kim Smith. ‘CBD
works with the receptors within
this system to encourage greater
communication, balance and
function throughout the body,
which is why CBD can help to
treat so many concerns.’
And just in case you had
been wondering... ‘While derived
from cannabis, cannabidiol is
not psychoactive, unlike THC
(tetrahydrocannabinol), the most
commonly known cannabinoid,
and so it will not get you high,’
confirms Kim.
