utumn is the perfect time to
forage for superfoods and you
don’t need a degree in mushroom
identification to find them – in
fact, you probably already recognise most.
While these superfoods still pack a serious
nutritional punch, they’re also far cheaper
than conventional superfoods, which
can often set us back a small fortune.
Nutritionist and foraging expert Caroline
Sherlock from Eat Drink Live Well tells us

Superfoods

Give your purse a break from freeze-dried goji berries and take advantage
of the superfoods growing wild on your doorstep – even in cities...

SWAP BLUEBERRIES FOR WILD BLACKBERRIES
‘Like blueberries, the purple colour
of blackberries makes them an excellent
source of anthocyanins – good for
heart and brain health and reducing
inflammation,’ explains Caroline.
‘They’re also a great source of vitamin
C.’ What’s more, blackberries contain
phytochemicals that can boost
endurance in the bedroom. And
vitamins C and E in the fruit will
also help to boost your libido.

HOW TO USE ‘Eat them alone, on
porridge or simmer into a health-
boosting compote to freeze for winter.’
HOW TO FIND ‘Check woodlands, parks,
alleys – and your garden!
Opt for berries
higher up in the
bush, rather
than those
near the
ground.’
