ONE THING DIET

If you only do one thing

EAT A KIWI – SKIN AND ALL!

The furry fruit holds hidden health benefits that can do you a world of good, as
nutritional therapist Terry Fairclough* explains...

Digestion
Kiwi fruit has around 2.1g of
fibre per fruit, great for digestive
health. Kiwis also contain a
proteolytic (to break down
proteins) enzyme called
Immunity actinidin, which aids digestion.
Kiwis are high in
vitamin C, which
boosts the immune
system, helping
to protect against
colds and flu.
Vitamin C also
improves lung
function, which
can improve
conditions
like asthma.

Energy
Like pears, apples and
berries, kiwis have a
low glycaemic index, which
helps control energy
and weight because they
release glucose gradually
into the bloodstream.

Heart health
Kiwis can boost your
cardiovascular health as
they have been shown to
reduce damaging triglycerides
in the bloodstream.

Skin
They also
contain vitamin
E – a protective
antioxidant that
reduces the
degeneration
of the skin.

Blood
pressure
One kiwi contains
around 215mg
potassium, which
balances the negative
effects of salt and
keeps blood pressure
under control.

WHAT ABOUT THE SKIN?
The fuzzy skin may not look appealing, but it’s full of vitamin C and fibre – so don’t be afraid to tuck in to the
whole fruit. However, it should be consumed in moderation. Kiwis contain oxalates, which bind to minerals in
the gut reducing their absorption, especially potassium. For this reason, people with kidney stones and
gallbladder problems should potentially avoid kiwi fruit.
