CLEANSE?
According to research conducted
by Simple, it is best to cleanse
twice a day, once in the morning
and once before bed –
this removes potential
irritants.

THE BIOLOGY^


OF ACNE
Acne is the result of the
overproduction of sebum
kicked off by a fluctuation in
hormones. The bacteria that
cause breakouts thrive on
sebum and can multiply deep in
your pores at a quicker rate with
more. Your body will try to expel
the excess sebum, but throw in
obstacles like dead skin cells,
product residue and pollution,
and you have the recipe for a
fully fledged breakout.
Understanding how spots
come to be better equips you to
tackle them. While there’s little
we can do to stem the blemish-
inducing hormones, there are
a few ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’ that can
help to minimise their effects.
DO use a salicylic acid cleanser
with a hyaluronic acid serum.
DON’T attempt to scrub away
spots. A mechanical exfoliator
only reaches your skin’s surface,
and blocked pores develop at a
much deeper level. By scrubbing
away, all you will be doing is
irritating already sensitive skin.
DO simplify your skincare. Too
many products can overload
your skin, leaving pore-blocking
residues and sensitising your
complexion too. Stick to light and
gentle cleansers, gimmick-free
moisturisers and lightweight serums
focused on calming and hydrating.
