Football League roundup

Bolton set to lose

points after

calling match off

Bolton face another points
deduction from the English Football
League after unilaterally postponing
last night’s League One home game
with Doncaster.
“Welfare” concerns were cited
regarding younger players being
forced to play in all four games of
the new season. Bolton went into

administration in May and are
prevented from signing new players.
The decision to postpone the
match was taken without consulting
Doncaster or the league, which is
to refer Bolton to an independent
commission. If found guilty of a
charge of gross misconduct the club
will lose further points, with the EFL
having docked them 12 for entering
administration. The EFL expects the
game against Doncaster to be played
at some point.
Bolton are hopeful that a takeover
by Football Ventures will be
completed soon. Their next game is
at home to Ipswich on Saturday.
Bury have now had fi ve of their

League One matches suspended
this season after the EFL postponed
Saturday’s game at Tranmere. In a
statement the EFL maintained its
stance that Bury’s owner, Steve Dale,
has not provided details of how the
club are to pay their debts and fund
the season.
The league said Bury have until
Friday to provide all necessary
information on “source and
suffi ciency of funding” for paying
£2m debts owed under a company
voluntary arrangement and fund the
season or the club will be expelled
after 125 years’ League membership.
In last night’s action in the
Championship Bristol City

leapfrogged Derby with a 2-1 win
at Pride Park thanks to fi rst-half
goals from Andreas Weimann
and Josh Brownhill; Jack Marriott
pulled one back late on. Jonathan
Woodgate’s Middlesbrough picked

up their fi rst win of the season. Britt
Assombalonga’s goal was enough to
see off Wigan at the Riverside.
Sheffi eld Wednesday moved
back to the top of the table with a
1-0 home win over Luton , Kadeem
Harris scoring the only goal early in
the second half. Luton remain in the
bottom three.
Lucas Jutkiewicz and Álvaro
Giménez were on target in the
second half at St Andrew’s, where
Birmingham beat Barnsley 2-0 and
Blackburn climbed into the top half
of the table with their fi rst away
win of the season, Derrick Williams
scoring the second-half winner at
Hull.
