HARRY

DETHRONED
AUSTIN BUTLER IS ELVIS

Despite being touted for the role of Elvis in Baz
Luhrmann’s hotly-anticipated Warner Bros
Presley biopic, One Direction band member
Harry Styles has been beaten to it by relative
unknown Austin Butler. 27-year-old Butler
posted the news on Instagram along with lyrics
from Elvis’ Love Me Tender: “You have made my
life complete, and I love you so.” Director
Luhrmann described the process as “a journey
of extensive screen testing and music and
performance workshops,” adding, “I knew
unequivocally that I had found someone who
could embody the spirit of one of the world’s
most iconic musical figures.” Filming is due to
go ahead next year with Hollywood giant Tom
Hanks taking the role of Colonel Tom Parker.

CAT BOX
HAPPY 40TH TO THE STRAY CATS

Now the Stray Cats new album 40 has finally
landed, it’s a good time to revisit their back
catalogue. Luckily, another tasty boxset has
arrived in a timely fashion, and it’s one we’ve
been waiting to get our hands on for a while.
Released as part of the 40th anniversary
celebrations, Runaway Boys is a deluxe limited
edition set that features their first three albums
on vinyl – Stray Cats, Gonna Ball and
Rant’N’Rave – as well as one vinyl entirely
made up of rare material, plus a 40-page book
that tells the band’s story. The finishing touch
comes via a Stray Cats board game in which
players speed around the UK for a rumble in
Brighton and to London’s infamous Ace Cafe.
Nice touch. Fantastic artwork too! Runaway Boys
deluxe 40th anniversary vinyl is out 27
September via BMG.

SPELL BOOK
THE LIFE OF SCREAMIN’ JAY

The lastest pageturner to find a home on the
Vintage Rock bookshelf is I Put a Spell on You:
The Bizarre Life of Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, the
unmissable biography of voodoo bluesman
Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, written by Steve
Bergsman and issued via Feral House. It’s a top
notch read, in part thanks to the fact that
Screamin’ Jay led such a crazy existence – tales
of prison, coffins, knives and a ‘where the wind
blows’ apporach to life – but also as Bergsman
weaves this strange yarn skilfully. Look out for
our Screamin’ Jay feature coming soon.
