Growing up in Florida,
Vanessa Serio became a
sports junkie. “I started with
gymnastics for 12 years,
then when I didn’t want to
compete anymore, I tried
diving, tennis, golf and
volleyball,” she says.
And though she has some
background in martial
arts, she found some new
moves to use with her
client in the boxing EMOM.
“I loved the 1-2 push-up
— with a punch into a side-
plank transition,” she says.
“I felt it through my arms
and entire core.”
When not training
herself or clients in her gym
The Top Strength Project in
Providence, Rhode Island,
Serio plays the violin and
unwinds after work with
all sorts of music. “I was
really lucky to grow up in
a family of musicians,” she
says. “There is something
so powerful about listening
to a song that has been
beautifully composed and
the way it can make you
feel — pure magic.”

Andrew Riposta’s
fascination with nutrition
developed after he did a
90-day challenge with a
collegiate strength coach
at age 19. “When I saw
how a well-formulated
diet could change my
body way more than my
training, I was hooked,”
he says. Though he
played football, baseball,
and did track and field in
his younger years, these
days Riposta does
high-intensity training
in the gym and gets his
cardio from muay Thai
and jiu-jitsu.
Having recently
“simplified” his work life,
Riposta admits to binge-
watching some popular
shows. “Game of Thrones,
Vikings and Breaking Bad
are my top three,” he says.
“I am almost caught up
with the rest of the world!”

Denver-based
photographer Matt
Nager has been shooting
commercial photography
for 15 years and has been
specializing in fitness for
more than five years, but
owns that he is continually
surprised by the industry.
“There is never an end to
the amount of training
programs that are out
there to help improve
your routine,” he says.
Outside the studio, Nager
regularly practices yoga
and takes full advantage
of his outdoorsy state.
“Living in Colorado, I
love the mountains,” he
says. “I do a lot of trail
running as well as hiking.”
As for his guilty pleasure,
the answer is simple:
“Sweets!”
