Taste the Difference Victoria
Sponge, £2.75 for 6 servings,
Sainsbury’s (sainsburys.co.uk)
The sponge in this cake is quite
flat and on the dry side. The
buttercream filling is sparse, too,
although the jam does
have a lovely, fresh
raspberry flavour.

Extra Special Hand Finished
Victoria Sponge, £2.25
for 6 servings, Asda
(groceries.asda.com)
Nice looking but a little crumbly,
this cake has a light sponge
and a plentiful and
flavoursome jam and
buttercream filling.

Finest Victoria Sponge,
£2.75 for 6 servings,
Tesco (tesco.com)
This is a light, yet moist, sweet
sponge with a lovely flavour. The
jam and buttercream
filling is tasty but there
isn’t enough of it.

Victoria Sponge, £5.19
for 10 servings, Waitrose
(waitrose.com)
An excellent sponge that is not
too sweet, this cake is
generous, well-balanced
and has a delicious jam
and buttercream filling.

Swedish brand Balans has just
launched an alcohol-infused
sparkling water. With subtle hints
of fruit, the low-calorie Aqua Spritz
comes in mandarin and lime
flavours. The alcohol, made from
apples, is fermented and filtered
to ensure the water includes no
additives or artificial flavours.
At 60 calories or less, and with
a 4% ABV content, a 250ml can
is a great alternative to more
traditional low-calorie drinks. It is available in Asda
and Tesco stores nationwide for £1.80.

Spicy ’Nduja, Sausage & Ricotta Tortelloni is the
latest offering from Italian pasta brand La Famiglia
Rana. The firm prides itself on its use of high-quality
ingredients that are chopped, rather than blitzed, to
ensure good texture
and taste. Its latest
recipe incorporates
’nduja, a Calabrian
paste of cured pork,
peppers and spices,
with sausage and
ricotta cheese. Rana is
available at Sainsbury’s
(sainsburys.co.uk) and
costs £2.50 for 250g.

Jamaican-born food entrepreneur Levi Roots has launched
his new Caribbean-inspired mayonnaise. Reggaenaise is
a blend of Levi’s signature Reggae Reggae Sauce and
creamy mayo with a jerk kick of aromatic allspice, paprika
and Scotch bonnet chilli to add a ziggy twist to all your
favourite dishes. Reggaenaise is available at Tesco
(tesco.com) for £1.99 rrp.
