Old House Journal – September 2019

(Marcin) #1
RIGHT The street
facade, before and
after a renovation
done under stringent
Oklahoma City Historic
District guidelines. The
Craftsman-style entry
door was custom-made
locally.The grey body
color is Peppercorn by
Sherwin–Williams.

OPPOSITE The original pine
siding was replicated where
necessary. Wood doors (inside
and out) were custom-made in
styles popular in 1910. A small
lumberyard 50 miles away
ordered custom-sized, double-
hung wood windows virtu-
ally identical to the originals.
OPPOSITE BEFORE The bungalow
had suffered some indigni-
ties. RIGHT Flat bungalow-era
trim was saved or replicated
inside. BELOW Among just a
handful of surviving details
is the fireplace with sailboat-
motif tiles. The original green
color was a happy surprise
under white paint, which was
stripped. BEFORES The house
was structurally sound but
overdue for renovation.
