Inthispainting,I pushedcolorsin

a moresubtleway.Therewasn’t

muchdistanceinthescene,so

I exaggeratedthebluegraysof

thebackgroundtocreatemore

depth.I alsosubduedsomeofthe

lightedareasofthebackgroundto

accomplish the same feeling.

Thiswasoneofthosemorningswherethesunlight

wasbrilliant,beautiful,andquicklychanging.I

setupandjuststartedmoving,becauseI knewI

didn’thavelong.Thekeyinthesesituationsisto

knowwhatisessentialandwhatisn’t.I focused

ongettingthemainshapesfairlyaccurate,and

thenjustworkedoncapturingthefeelingofthe

sunshineandshadows.I hadoptedfora dark-

tonedcanvas,soeverycolorI appliedwasmoving

upthevaluescale.Theblueofthehouseinthe

backwaseasytoexaggerate,andit allowedme

topushtheothercolorsfurtheralso.Whilethere

isalwayssomethingI’dliketofix,I oftenlovethe

spontaneous feeling of these paintingsdoneunder

a time crunch.
