OUT AND ABOUT
POOLE VIKINGS SHOW

T

he elite among southern
modellers and model
clubs made the annual
pilgrimage to Dorset on
April 13, for this year’s Poole
Vikings Model Show. Always a
popular and friendly event, this

gathering has taken place for more
than 30 years and continues to
be a showcase for the talents of
novice and experienced modellers
alike. Staged as usual in Parkstone
Grammar School, the number of
visitors was down slightly on last

year’s bumper attendance, but
most traders expressed satisfaction
on sales and orders. The Poole
Vikings Model Club is a branch of
the International Plastic Modelling
Society (UK), where it's known as
IPMS Dorset, and is linked to the
British Model Soldier Society as
BMSS Dorset, a fact reflected in
the large number of IPMS/BMSS-
affiliated clubs and individuals
present. Further details of Poole
Vikings Model Club events and
activities can be found at: https://

 Dragon’s 1/35 Sherman Firefly Vc graced the extensive display laid on by the show’s
host, the Poole Vikings Model Club, and was built by Martin Crabb.

 Airfix’s 1/48 Walrus was the basis
for this eye-catching example in
the colours of civil operator United
Whalers, made by Rory Manton of
Alpha One, from Yeovil, Somerset.

 The Surface Warship Association has
an active membership in the Dorset area,
resulting in many large and impressive
maritime subjects including this 1/48 HMS
Quorn (M41) mine-countermeasures vessel.

 One of the long-standing exhibitors at the Poole show is independent modeller Keith
Peckover, whose extensive selection of models for 2019 included this beautifully-made 1/72
RB-58A Hustler, based on the Italeri kit.
