The All-Japan Pillow Fighting Championship
was held in the small fishing town of Ito
recently. Originally invented by a group of
highschool students, the quirky competition
involvestwoteams pretending to sleep under
blankets before a whistle blows and the fun
begins. Resembling a combination between
dodgeball and chess, the ultimate goal is to
protecteach team’s ‘King’ from being struck
bypillowsandat the same time attempting to
hittheopposition’s ‘King’ in two-minute sets.
The recentregional tournament consisted of
16 teamswitha total of 64 participants from
local businesses, sporting teams and local
athletic clubs. The winners this year were
Team BlancWhite which featured the second
youngest competitor on the day - nine-year-
old,SodaWamanobe.In a treat for thrill-seekers,the world’s longest
waterslideis expectedto openthisyear.Thenew
slide will measureover one kilometre long and
is being builtat theESCAPEthemeparkon the
islandof Penangin Malaysia.Currently,thelongest
waterslideis locatedat ActionParkin NewJersey
andmeasuresjustover 600 metreslong.ESCAPE
