ISSUE 178 RACING AHEAD 5
head down to Newmarket for the
second day of the July meeting.
The Weatherbys-sponsored two-
year-old maiden looked a decent
event on paper and the winner – that
Richard Hannon-trained Al Madhar –
had plenty about him in the paddock
beforehand.
The Siyouni colt finished really well
to fend off the well-touted Al Suhail,
who drifted markedly on track, but
pulled nicely clear and looks a sure-fire
future winner.
He wore a hood on in the pre-parade
ring (it will be interesting to see if he
does the same next time) but didn’t do
much wrong during the race and went
down by just a neck at the line.
A Dubawi half-brother to Dante
winner Telecaster, he won’t have any
problem getting a mile before the end
of the season, and is likely to be diffi-
cult to beat in something similar next
month.
It will be interesting to see where the
winner heads next and also interesting
to see how the race works out as a
whole.
