SUPERSIZED CAT-EYE
Find dainty flicks a bit too fussy? We feel
you. Luckily, the AW19-20 shows proved
it’s perfectly okay to get a little heavy-
handed with your standard cat-eye —
chic, even. GCDS showcased an entirely
blacked-out lid with a generous outer
wing, while the girls at Louis Vuitton wore
their feline flicks loud and lived-in, showing
that precision isn’t always the be-all
and end-all. Over at Erdem, Val Garland
created a velvety winged eye by laying
down eyeliner as a base before adding
Nars eyeshadow. The at-home hack? Use
micellar water and cotton buds to eliminate
excess and get the edges razor-sharp. E

WHAT LIES BENE ATH
This season’s shows brought the oft-
overlooked under-eye area into the spotlight.
Proenza Schouler kept things relatively
understated with black lacquer inching along
the lower lashline, while Peter Philips drew in
graphic bottom strokes to create an inverse
lash effect à la Twiggy at Christian Dior.
Taking the look up a notch, Giambattista Valli
opted for a black underlined eye framed by
metallic false lashes, and over at Marine
Serre, models took to the runway with tiny
LED lights under their eyes. Take this as your
invitation to experiment with different styles
and colours. But if bright lights seem a little
extra, don’t worry – a touch of pencil,
smudged at the edges, still counts.
