EMBROIDER PINCUSHION
CENTER
The Full-Size Pattern and
Embroidery Placement Diagram is
on Pattern Sheet 4.
Refer to “Embroidery Stitch
Diagrams,” page 42, for stitch
instructions. Use two strands of black
embroidery floss for all stitches.
- Tape Full-Size Pattern and
Embroidery Placement Diagram on a
light box or bright window. Center tan
print 8" square atop pattern; tape in
place. Using a fine-point marking pen,
trace design onto fabric. - Referring to Full-Size Pattern and
Embroidery Placement Diagram and
Embroidery Stitch Diagrams, stem-
stitch outlines of moon, branch, hat,
head, eyes, cape, wings, body, and tail
feathers. Blanket-stitch lower edges
of cape. Make running stitches for
wing details and lazy daisy stitches
for chest feathers. Make a French
knot in the center of each eye, single
featherstitches for each talon, and
straight stitches for stars, beak, and
lines in eyes.
3. Press embroidered tan print square
from wrong side. With design centered,
trim to 4^1 ⁄ 2 " square to make pincushion
center.
ASSEMBLE PINCUSHION
Measurements include^1 ⁄ 4 " seam
allowances unless otherwise indicated.
Sew with right sides together unless
otherwise stated.
Press seams in directions indicated
by arrows on diagrams. If no direction
is specified, press seam toward darker
fabric.
- Referring to Diagram 1, sew black
print 1× 41 ⁄ 2 " border strips to opposite
edges of pincushion center. Join black
print 1× 51 ⁄ 2 " border strips to remaining
edges to make pincushion front. The
front should be 5^1 ⁄ 2 " square including
seam allowances.
Small embroidery projects are great for
on-the-go-sewing. They are portable, and all
I need is floss, a needle, and small scissors.
