It’seasytogetto;noladderrequired.Fromthe
home’smaindeck,youtrotupa dozenorsostairs,
crossa brightyellowsteelgangway,andthereyou
are,lookingattwothingsthatwillstopyouinyour
tracks.Oneisthepanorama,theotheris,well,it looks
somethinglikea busstop.TheviewsacrossKilbirnieto
EvansBayanda splashofCookStraittothesouthwere
alreadythere.Theotheris a pieceofwhimsyfromthe
project’sdesigners,SallyOgleandBenMitchell-Anyon
ofWellington’sPatchworkArchitecture.
Creatingasmuchflatspaceaspossiblewasatthe
heartofthisintelligentresponsetoa small,difficult
sitewhichis,ina word,precipitous.Aroofdeckwas
oneinspiredidea.However,togiveit asmuchutility
aspossible,thepairdesignedwhatis,inessence,a cute
double-doorshelteronits southern side, a space they
dubbed the ‘Bus Stop’.
