steminplacetuckingtherawedge

intothegapleftwhenyoustitchedthe

garland.Pintheleavesinplaceand,

usinga matchingthread,appliquéthe

stemandleavesallthewayaround,

turningtheedgesoftheleavesunder

asyougoandusingtinyneatslip

stitches(Fig 13 ). Usethetechnique

forpointsdescribedinstep 13 tohelp

youwiththeleafpoints.Stitch the

gap in the garland closed.

Seweachofthefour(4)stems

andleavesinthisway.Then

pininplaceandthenstitchdownthe

four(4)flowerheadsinthesameway

(Fig 14 ). Seeappliquétipsonpage

26 foranalternativewayto prepare

this shape for appliqué.

Usingthetinycircletemplate,

makea papertemplateusing

the inner seam allowance. With the

WSofyourfabriccircletowardsyou,

knotsecurelythensewa smallneat

runningstitchallthewayaround

usingainseam.Placethepaper

templateinthecentreandgentlydraw

upstitchesandsecureyourthread.

Presswellfrombothsides.Carefully

popthepaperpieceout.Pinthecircle

inplaceandstitchdownasbefore(Fig

15 ). Repeatwithalltwelve(12)tiny

circles to complete the block.

Pressandremoveanytracing

lines. Trim to 24in square.

Makeanothereight(8)blocks

usinga mixtureoffabrics.When

complete,layouttheblocksinthree

(3)rowsofthree(3).Sewtheblocks

intorowsbeforesewingthethreerows

together to finish the quilt top.

Quiltingandfinishing

Piecethebackingfabricby

cuttingtheyardageintotwo(2)

equal lengths. Remove the selvedges

andsewtogetheralongthelength

withainseamallowancetoform

a centre seam. Press well all over.

Makea quiltsandwichofyour

backingfabric(RSdown),the

battingandthequilttop(RSup).

Basteorpinthelayerstogetherand

thenquiltasyouwish.Jofree-motion

quiltedhers,usingpebblestofillthe

EPPgarlandandleaves and stems

everywhere else.

Oncequilted,trimothe

excessbackingfabricand

batting and square up the quilt.

Preparethebindingbysewing

thestripsendtoendtoform

onelonglength.Foldalongthefull

length,WStogetherandpress. Use

this to bind the quilt.
