hexagonwillneedtofoldinorderto
lineuptheedges.Asyousewalong
therow,alternatebetweenpivoting
onanopenseamonthetopandthen
thebottomtokeepedgesandcorners
aligned.If youfindit hardtopivot,
youcanstopat theendofeachseam,
removetheworkfromthemachine,
thenlineupthenextedgesbefore
continuing. Press all seams open.

Oncethetopis complete,layer
and baste ready for quilting.

Thisquiltwasquiltedinan
allovermeanderdesignonthe
machine,whichyoucandoat home
ona domesticmachine.Tofinishby
hand,bigstitchquiltingaroundthe
hexagonswillworkwell,tyinginthe
centreofeachhexagon.Forthis,use
a cotton Perle thread size 8 or 12.

Oncequilted,removethe
basting.Thelayoutofthis
quiltgivesa staggerededgetothetop
andbottom.If youdon’twantthis,
simply trim the edges square.

Whenbindinga quiltwith
zigzagorcurvededges,snip
intotheseamallowanceofthe
concavepoints(Fig 11 ). Bindinthe
sameway,butstraightentheedgeas
muchasyoucanwhenyoustitchon
thebinding.Note:It’seasiesttostart
andfinishyourbinding on a long
straight edge.
