Quiltingandfinishing

Oncethetopis complete,layer
and baste ready for quilting.

Thisquiltwasquiltedinan
allovermeanderdesignonthe
machine,whichyoucandoat home
ona domesticmachine.Tofinishby
hand,bigstitchquiltingaroundthe
hexagonswillworkwell,tyinginthe
centreofeachhexagon.Forthis,use
a cotton Perle thread size 8 or 12.

Oncequilted,removethe
basting.Thelayoutofthis
quiltgivesa staggerededgetothetop
andbottom.If youdon’twantthis,
simply trim the edges square.

Whenbindinga quiltwith
zigzagorcurvededges,snip
intotheseamallowanceofthe
concavepoints(Fig 11 ). Bindinthe
sameway,butstraightentheedgeas
muchasyoucanwhenyoustitchon
thebinding.Note:It’seasiesttostart
andfinishyourbinding on a long
straight edge.
