REUNITED colleagues have been
catching up after 45 years apart.
Nat Parmar, 76, of Reading,
Berkshire, worked with Fiona
Watts in the early Seventies at
Freightliners Ltd in Paddington,
West London.
‘Fiona worked with us for a
couple of years before leaving to
travel and work out what she
wanted to do with her life,’ wrote
Nat. ‘When I knew her, she was in
her late 20s or early 30s, tall and
beautiful, with a great sense of
humour and warmth.
‘Some of us who worked for
Freightliners meet occasionally
and we often wonder what

happened to Fiona.’ Nat has now
sent this update: ‘After the article
about my search was published,
Fiona contacted me through
Facebook and we met for lunch.
We reminisced about the old
days, which she remembered
clearly. We had lost contact
because she had married and
lived with her husband in San
Francisco for a few years.
‘I arranged a get together in a
local Chinese restaurant with
other former colleagues and
Fiona was very happy to see
us all after 45 years.
‘We all look forward to meeting
up again soon.’

‘I am writing a biography
of William mcKinney from
Belfast, who was a
chorister with D’Oyly
Carte Opera Company in
London from 1960 to 1963,’
writes Sam Boyd, 63, a
semi-retired butcher.
‘He would like to get in
touch with his old friend
John Snape, from
Lancashire, who was also a
chorister at that time.
‘William left D’Oyly Carte
to take up a scholarship at
the Royal academy of
music, where he studied
music, piano and operatic
singing under the tutorship
of Bruce Boyce, the

renowned Canadian
baritone. In 1966, William
was awarded a Vaughan
Williams Bursary to
study in Rome under
maestro Ricci.
‘The Eternal City became
William’s base for the next
34 years, as he sang all
over the world at famous
opera houses.
‘Now 82 and retired, he
lives in the seaside town
of Carrickfergus in
Northern Ireland, where
we are neighbours and
good friends.
‘He has told us many
wonderful stories of his life
as an opera singer.’
