MSI X570 Ace

Has MSI aced it?

Y

ou can always
count on MSI to
deliver the
strongest gaming
message, but that doesn’t
tell the whole story as its
engineering and quality
control have come a long
way in the last several
years. The X570 Ace looks
every bit a seriously high
end product. It’s one that
caught our eye when we
first saw it on display at
Computex. It offers good
value too at $589.
The X570 Ace is a great
looking board with its
infinity effect RGB mirror
combined with its black and
gold theme. The M.2 slots
are separate from the PCH
cooler which makes drive
installation a breeze. The
MSI is the only board in the
test to feature a heat pipe,
which links the VRM
cooling to the fan cooled
PCH. This makes a lot of
sense and should help to
keep the board cool in
different cases with
different fan placements.
The VRM itself is very
strong, as is the case with
all the high end X570

least until the kinks in the
platform are worked out.
The Ace performs well
as we’d expect. AMD’s
updated AGESA BIOS
microcode appears to have
brought the boards
together in terms of
performance. All the
boards are within one or
two percent for the most
part, or within the margin
of error.
The MSI UEFI BIOS
implementation has not
changed much in recent
years and remains one of
the easier to navigate with
its logically laid out
designs. MSI’s Fan control
system and functionality
is very good and you may
wish to visit this to play
with the PCH fan setting.
Luckily with the latest
available update the
chipset fan remained
quiet at all times and in
fact doesn’t spin up at all

boards. 14 phases paired
with 14 60A MOSFETs mean
that power delivery won’t
ever be a problem. There’s
dual 8-pin power
connectors too. The board
only has four SATA ports,
which is something to note
if you need more. The I/O
area has a good helping of
ports with four USB 3.2 Gen
2, 2x Gen 1 and two USB 2.0.
Like the more expensive
Asus and Aorus, the MSI
includes the very welcome
Intel Gigabit and Realtek
2.5GB LAN ports plus
802.11ax Wi-Fi. Thank you!
The MSI OC dial at the
bottom right of the board
makes a return. We tried it
but were instantly
concerned with high
temperatures and voltage,
even at the lowest setting.
Given that Ryzen 3000
series overhead appears to
be limited, we’d advise
users to OC themselves, at

under light use.
MSI’s X570 Ace ticks all
the boxes. It’s affordable
(relatively) performs well
and has the key features of
the more expensive boards
in the roundup. The MSI
and Aorus boards are quite
close to each other in spec.
The Gigabyte has a few
little things we like
whereas the MSI offers
better value. Combine this
with good looks and a
typically easy to use BIOS
and we think MSI has a
board worthy of
recommendation.

Verdic t
MSI’s X570 Ace offers great value
for its feature set. It’s a well refined
package overall.
