Withthehardwareoutoftheway,

Ithenworkedonimplementing

themodsintothebuild.Ihadonerough

ideaforthethemeandthatwasto

replicatetheWDBlackSN750SSD’s

heatsinkdesignonthecaseitself.

OriginallyIwasgoingtogowith

aluminiumpanelsforthefrontandthe

side,buttheaddedweightand

mountingmethodswerenotgoingto

work.Ilookedhighandlowforoffthe

shelfheatsinksthathadasimilar

designtotheWDBlackSN750SSD’s

uniqueheatspreader,butnothing

existed.GoingwithCNC-cutAcetal (a

high-performance engineering

polymer)wasamuchbetterchoiceasit

wasalreadyblack,easytoworkwith

andmuchlighter.

HavingthepanelsCNCcutexactly

liketheoriginalWDBlackSN750SSD’s

heatsinkwasreallytheonlywaytoget

theexactfinishIwasafter.AsIdon’t

ownaCNCmachine,Ihadafrienddraw

uptheworkinCADtobethen

machinesbymylocalplasticsshop.

doneviascrews behind the Acetal

panels.

Onelaststeptofinishoffthe

replicaWDBlackSN750SSD

panels was to create the silver edge as

seenonthetopoftheWDBlackSN750

SSD’sheatsink.IfIwentwith

aluminiumforthepanelmaterialI

couldhavepaintedthemblack,then

sandeddownthetops.ButasIwent

withtheAcetalmaterialitmadeitbit

morecomplex.Ithenplannedonusing

stripsofsilvervinyltocreatethis

effectbutduetothefinishandwidth

ofeachpiece,thestripssimplywould

notstick.Asilverpaintpendidthe

trickwithalongrulertohelpkeepthe

linesstraight.Iwasquitehesitanton

usingthismethodatfirstandnearly

endedupleavingthetopsblack.

Overallthecontrastbetweenthe

blackAcetalandsilvertops really

compliments the build.
