I love surface fishing and whilst it’s an
exhilarating form of fishing, the fish can often
hit the lure clumsily and regularly miss the
hooks. Try setting the hooks too early and
you’ll prematurely pull the lure away,
potentially spooking the fish. A final point on

difficult to determine whether the fish has
swallowed the lure or not. The best time to set
the hooks is if the lure disappears below the
surface or if you feel solid weight on the end of
the line. These two cues indicate that the fish
has the lure and hooks in its mouth which is the
optimal time to lean back and set the hooks! ●
