MASERATI GRANSPORT

SPYDER

One of just 26 built and the last RHD car – it
all adds up to a highly tempting package

here's a lot to be said
for exclusivity and the
Maserati GranSport
Spyder serves up that in fine
form – with just 25 other UK cars
around you're unlikely to spot
another one in the supermarket
car park.
This particular example looks
fantastic in Verde Goodwood,
and on closer inspection it holds
up well – other than some
touched-in stonechips (but fear
not, they're only lacquer-deep)
plus some minor surface
scratches on the rear bumper it
looks brand new. These minor
issues will be dealt with by the

vendor before the car is sold.
The electrically operated roof
has a design flaw that damages
the fabric roof, and this car is no
different – it's been patched
professionally and we didn't
see or smell any evidence of
water ingress.
The alloy wheels are in
excellent condition, and the car
wears Michelin Pilot
SuperSports on the front and
Goodyear Eagle F1s at the back.
The Cuoio and beige interior
presents well for the mileage.
There's customary sticky
buttons common to Italian
exotica of the era, and the

bottoms of the doors are
showing light leather damage (a
common issue where shoes hit
the door on exit). Again, this will
be sorted by the vendor before
the car is sold. Other than that,
there's much to enjoy in the
Enrico Fumia-penned interior.
The car comes with a bulging
pile of receipts. Its last service
took place at 28k miles (2017)
and included a clutch change. It
will be serviced again before the
car is sold. Servicing has been
done at main dealers and
recognised specialists, with all
the right stamps in the book.
If you've never driven a
GranSport then it's an absolute
treat – the Ferrari-derived V8
screams with a resonant blare
that melts the soul every time
you take it to 7000rpm. Remove
the roof and you get to
appreciate this mechanical
concert unhindered.
Steering is super-sharp, and
though the ride comfort can be
uncompromising, it's a car that
oozes good-time vibes.
We didn't experience any
peculiar noises, rattles or
vibrations during our time with
the car. With a fresh service and
the very minor issues rectified,
we can't think of many better
ways to take in a late summer
tour of the Italian lakes...
