If his designfor Cardi B’s look at the Met Gala in New York last month didn’tgrab your attention, his new limited-edition makeup collectionwith M.A.C Cosmetics will. A riot of colours for lips, cheeks,and eyes packaged in old-school cassettes, boom boxes,and CDs, the collection is his ode to music. Tell us what yourrelationship with M.A.C has been and why you partneredwith them? M.A.C has been my partner for creating the looksfor my shows for so many years. They have not only supportedmy designs from a cosmetics perspective, but they’ve helpedto bring my documentary—Jeremy Scott: The People’sDesigner—to life, and their philanthropic eforts separate themfrom any other brand. M.A.C is really the makeup that’s used byprofessionals and comes from the origins of high fashion. Whatis the inspiration behind your collaboration? Music is aconstant in my life. When I’m prepping for my show or dressinga pop star for her tour, I put music on and we use it as a muse tobring these diferent images and visions to life. I wanted to takea makeup palette and turn it into a boom box, cassette, and CDto pay homage to music. The packaging is, I think, the purestexpression of my creativity right now. What does makeupmean to you? It is such a big tool for creating and fulfilling mylife’s work. It captures the mood that I’m trying to express andhelps me with the message. Describe the Jeremy Scottwoman. She’s always musically involved. She’s the one on stageat the concert, or she could be backstage. What is a motto youlive by? It’s to never wait for yourself. When I was first startingout, I would tell myself things like, that’s for later when you havemore success. I came to realise that it’s always the right time tostretch out of your comfort zone and embrace the fear thatcomes with the unknown. Do you have a favourite in thiscollection? If I really have to pick, it would be the boom box, whichis my Lo-Fi / Eye Shadow x 29. It’s strong and bold with manydifferent colours. It really makes a statement.
