THEY SAID IT...
I don’t feel hard done by. I think it
was a very good performance. We
used the ball wisely when we
could. They had a few chances,
Pope made a superb save.
SEAN DYCHE

Arsenal have won their first two
games of a Prem season for the
first time since 2009-10.
Sean Dyche has lost all nine of his
Prem matches against Arsenal.
Alexandre Lacazette registered his
40th goal involvement for Arsenal
in the Prem since his debut in
August 2017 (28 goals, 12 assists),
a haul only Pierre-Emerick
Aubameyang can better for the
club in that time (43).
Lacazette has been directly
involved in 28 goals (21 goals and
seven assists) in 36 Prem
appearances for Arsenal at the
Emirates, the joint-most of any
player for the club since his debut
in August 2017.
Only Sadio Mane (14) and Sergio
Aguero (13) have scored more Prem
goals in 2019 than Ashley Barnes
(12 - level with Jamie Vardy).

life, how to dream, and that
is what I am going to do
here. I am a guy with ambi-
tion, and that is why I
moved. I could choose a
comfortable zone, get
money, be cool and that is
it. But I like a new challenge
and new things in my life.
“This is what gives me
oxygen and what gives me
motivation.
“Everyone knows I was so
happy at Chelsea and I won
many trophies there. But I
had a real honest conversa-
tion with Lamps and he had
different ideas with his
plans for the year.
“So the best way for me to
respect the club was to
move on, try a new
challenge, and give him the
opportunity to do his job.
“I am so happy here. I
have felt welcome. This is a
big club and I want to see it
shine – on the pitch and off.
“This is why I left my
family when I was 14 to try
something new around the
world. My philosophy in life
is to be positive and
to be a dreamer.
“But you must
understand that
to achieve your
dream you have
to work hard.
“I can dream and
we can fight for some-
thing big: That is always
going to be my speech to
everyone.
“Now it is up to the team.
The team is going to dream
more, the team is going to
prepare better and under-
stand the game.”
Arsenal were good value
for goals from Alexandre
Lacazette and Pierre-Emer-
ick Aubameyang, Ashley
Barnes equalising for the
spirited Clarets just before
the break.
But the real star of the
show was on-loan Real
Madrid midfielder Dani
Ceballos, whose cocktail of
silk and steel was an instant
hit with the Gooners.
Luiz (above) added: “He is
someone who loves to play
football and do his job.
“He is showing exactly
what he is as a player, some-
one who loves to get on the
ball and take the game (to
opponents).
“He played an amazing
game and I hope he can
keep improving. He played
at a different level and it
was good for everybody.”

Brazil star vows to teach the Gunners

how to turn their dreams into trophies

BY MIKE WALTERS
DAVID LUIZ joined
Arsenal because he
didn’t want to drift into
the comfort zone after a
heart-to-heart with
Chelsea manager Frank
Lampard.
The Gunners’ deadline-
day signing made a winning
debut on the pitch and in
the hair salon, where his
spot-the- difference compe-
tition with new team-mate
Matteo Guendouzi and
their tumbleweed perms
will keep commentators on
their toes.
For defensive resolve,
Luiz was often damned
with faint praise about
backbones and jellyfish at
Stamford Bridge. But few
players can match the
Brazilian’s collection of
winners’ medals,
from a Premier
League title to
the Champions
League, FA Cup
and Europa
League.
And even if the
bargain £8million centre-
back’s magic does not rub
off on the Gunners, the hair-
spray duels with Guendouzi
will be unmissable.
Luiz, 32, spoke eloquently
about the experience he will
bring to the Emirates and
his earnest hope of helping
Arsenal to “shine” after they
completed a 10th consecu-
tive top-flight win against
Burnley. He said: “I try to
give what I have learned
from my life. I had a fantas-
tic opportunity to live here,
many fantastic moments in
my career, many titles.
“I just try to make them
understand that everything
is possible if you work hard,
if you really believe, if you
are humble, keep your feet
on the ground and take it
step by step.
“The game against New-
castle and this one shows
the team now understands
how to take the three
points. And in the end I try
to give them what many
players did for me in my life.
“My experience has
taught me how to believe in
