n28July,Egan Bernal cycled into therecordbooks
by winning theTour de France. The 22-year-old is the
youngest winner of the world’smost famous bikeracefor
110 years. He is also the first cyclist fromColombia,acountry
in South America, to takethe top prize.“I’m the happiest guy
in the world.Ihave just won theTour de Franceand Ican’t
believe it,”hesaid.
The race takes placefor three weeksevery July onroads
around France. Bernal rides forTeam Ineos,aBritish team
that wascalledTeam Skyuntil earlier this year.Bernal’s
Welsh teammate, Geraint Thomas,came second. Thomas

wasthe 2018Tour champion but Bernal proved to
be the strongest rider overall during the 21 different
race stages.
France’sJulian Alaphilippe worethe yellow
jersey,given each day to the rider with the quickest
overall time aftereach stage, for 14 days.
Alaphilippe lost the jersey to Bernal on stage 19,
and Bernalkept it until the finish inParis two days
later.French cyclingfans had hoped to have a
FrenchTour champion for the first time since1985,
but in the end itwasBernal who triumphed.

League team Liverpool from
Championship clubFulham. Elliott
is the youngest everfootballer
to play in the PremierLeague.
