“HER THOUGHTFUL GESTURE WAS
JUST WHAT WE NEEDED!”
My husband and I were on a much-needed
getaway. In addition to the norma l stresses of
work, we’d recently been dealing with illness in our
family. One evening, while out to dinner, I noticed
a couple of women at a neighboring table trying to get
our attention. One was miming using a camera, so I rose to offer
to take a picture of her and her friend. “No, no,” she responded.
“You two look so nice! I’d like to take a picture for you to have of
this evening.” She couldn’t have known how important this trip
was to us, but her kindness was just what we needed.

“THE SMALL PRICE WAS NOTHING
COMPARED TO THE POSITIVE
IMPACT ON A CHILD’S LIFE!”
While browsing in a thrift shop, I over-
heard a boy, about 8 years old, talking
to his mom. From what I gathered, their
family was having an issue with paying hospital bills. I watched as
the child put a bat and ball back into the bin. As they walked away,
I went to pay for some books and also paid for his bat, ball and glove
and had the cashier give it to him. As I walked across the parking
lot, suddenly, a young voice shouted, “Lady!” A moment later, lean
arms wrapped around me, and the boy thanked me profusely. The
small price of a bat, ball and glove was nothing compared to the
positive impact on a child’s life. —Susan Thornton, Blackshear, GA
“TRUE FRIENDSHIP IS THE VERY
BEST MEDICINE!”
Last year, I was shocked when I ended
up in the hospital with a heart attack. It
was soon apparent that I needed to ma ke some life
changes. In addition to becoming more active, my
doctors advised me to consume more fresh fruit and
vegetables. My friend Cher yl learned of my plight and came to my
rescue. She plants a garden in her backyard each year. She started
dropping fresh vegetables and fruit off for me. My new way of eat-
ing has greatly improved my health. I have been deeply touched by
Cheryl’s kindness. She is a good friend.

Ripe summer’s queen
The hey-day of the year
With robes that gleam with
sunny sheen
Sweet August doth appear”
