scattered about the country, as well as trav-
eling to places such as Ireland and Canada
with them. While each trip created very
special memories for her, those visits were
cherished even more by her children and
grandchildren who loved spending time with
her.
Anne loved dogs and was a passionate Red-
skins fan, but her first love was giraffes. Real
ones, stuffed ones, giraffes on clothes, it
didn’t matter, she loved them all. So, her kids
showered her with them on every occasion,
and with eight children, that is a lot of
giraffes.
Anne was predeceased by her husband,
Charles R. Woodhams in 1988; son, Keith
R. Woodhams in 2018; and grandson, Jesse
David Hall in 2010. She is survived by a
large family that includes six daughters and
one son: Robin Castaldi of Lancaster, PA,
Charlene Houtz (Steve) of Colorado Springs,
CO, Annette Gorey (Tom) of Leesburg, FL,
Debbi Zepp of Savannah, GA, Janice Hall
of Roanoke, VA, Bruce Woodhams (Lory)
of Gaithersburg, MD, Pam Magnuson (Greg)
of Woodbine, MD; daughter-in-law Monica
Woodhams of Rohrersville, MD; and brother,
Mitchell Stovall (Martie) of Jacksonville, FL.
Her 18 surviving grandchildren include Kris-
ten Castaldi of Lancaster, PA, Craig Houtz,
of Colorado Springs, CO, Kyle Houtz also of
Colorado Springs, Erinn Gorey, of Clarksburg,
MD, Shannon Trentadue of Orlando, FL, Kerry
Hochberger of Montgomery Village, MD,

ANNE STOVALL WOODHAMS
On Sunday, August 18, 2019, Anne Stovall
Woodhams, deeply loved mother of eight,
passed away peacefully at age 93. She was
born on January 1, 1926, in Tampa, FL, to Ina
Singleton Stovall and Bates Mitchell Stovall
and was raised in Jacksonville, FL. A resident
of Bethesda, MD for more than 65 years,
Anne had many friends in the community
including those at Bethesda Presbyterian
Church where she was a long-time member.
A talented seamstress, she created a vast
array of clothing, even wedding dresses for
her daughters, and many an Easter morning
found her girls in matching dresses. She
was deeply involved in the education of her
children and encouraged them to explore
music and the arts as well as academics.
After many years as a devoted mother and
wife,Anne added to her resume by becoming
a records secretary for the National 4-H
Council in Chevy Chase, MD. Even though
she was a bit overwhelmed at first by all the
new and unfamiliar office technology, she
soon became highly respected and valued
for her skills, depth of knowledge and warm,
willing personality.

a reader, news junkie, and history buff, and he
got joy out of sharing these loves with others.
From shared crime novels to battlefield tours
to Harley rides around the country, many have
come away from their time with Lew richer and
more knowledgeable. As the oldest of seven,

used his outdoor rec report for many years
as a primary text. Just days before falling
ill, he finished a book detailing his career.
His deep and abiding faith in God pervaded
every part of his life. In his 90’s he edited
and self-published his father’s book detailing
his immigration, assimilation and path to
Methodist ministry. A lifelong Methodist he
was an active church member at Mt. Olivet
Methodist Church, Arlington, Va., and was
along-timeactivememberofBonAir(VA)
United Methodist Church where he ushered
and served with Methodist Men.
A believer in community service, he served
as Chairman of Arlington’s Boy Scout Troup
103; President of the Arlington Powhatan
Swimming Club; and President of the Oyster
Bay Community Association, Chincoteague
VA.
Counting himself as among the first to “jog”
for exercise (1940’s), he later loved working
out at the gym,and with his wife enjoyed bird
watching, traveling, visiting the ocean and
national parks, reading, and current events,
reading two newspapers every day. At age
100, his beloved friend Denny Arner arranged
for Kal to throw out the first pitch (Richmond
Squirrels), a highlight of his life and for which
he practiced pitching for weeks to ensure a
long enough pitch.
He was wise and generous with imparting his
wisdom to family and friends. When asked
how he had lived in good health for so long,
he named four reasons: His love for his wife,
his lifelong pursuit of exercise (boxing until
several weeks ago); his deep and abiding
faith in God, and daily meditation which he
began in Germany to deal with the stress of
war. He faced his short illness with the same
courage and grace with which he conducted
his entire life.
Kal is survived by his wife, Kathryn (Kitty);
his children, Kaleel Charles Skeirik Jr. (Nancy)
(Cincinnati, OH), and Karen Skeirik Elliott
(Tom) (Richmond, VA); Jeanette Macht (sister,
Warminster, PA); and grandchildren, Audrey
Bertaux-Skeirik, Nina (Bertaux-Skeirik)
Steele, Lucas Bertaux-Skeirik and Jennifer

never “got” old.
Born May 21, 1917, in Lawrence, MA, to
Lebanese parents, his Methodist minister
father (Habeeb) and mother (Adma) raised
him with a deep belief in a loving God.
At Syracuse University (1939, B.A. Public
Administration) he lettered as a cross coun-
try runner and miler. He served in the 501st
Armored Field Artillery, 14th Armored Divi-

technical Sergeant in Military Intelligence.
He was awarded a Bronze Star. Post war
he assisted in establishing new local govern-
ments free from Nazi control. In his late 80’s
he self-published his war memoirs and began
speaking to students and organizations to
convey his passion for the importance of
faith, freedom and democratic government.
Post honorable discharge, Kal moved to
Washington, DC assisting with the Marshall
Plan, focusing on Luxemburg, at the State
Department. Joining Foundry United
Methodist Church, he met, and married on
June 17, 1950, the love of his life, Kathryn
Newcome.
Driven to make a difference, he spent most
of his 35 years with the U.S. Federal govern-
ment as an economist at the Federal Trade
Commission and Small Business Adminis-
tration. During his tenure he was proud
to be an expert witness both at antitrust
trials as well as before U.S. Congressional
