The BackBeat Go 810 brings a younger

aesthetic to the series, with quite a

bit more plastic in its construct. That’s

perhaps unavoidable as it retails for

just $249, but doesn’t mean Plantronics

skimped on the electronics.

You’ll get the same touch controls

for playback on the

left ear cup, multi-

point capabilities,

and two levels of

ANC to match your

needs with the

BackBeat Go 810

as the competition.

Battery life is a solid

22 hours, with fast

charging that gets

you three hours of

listening after just 10 minutes.

Holding down the Play/Pause button

on the left ear cup will call up your

smartphone’s voice assistant, and a new

EQ button at the bottom of the right ear

cup lets you quickly cycle through the

various EQ presets provided.

What’s unique, is a Find MyHeadset

feature in the companion app. This

makes the BackBeat Go 810 play a loud

siren so you can locate it. It appears the

headset will send out a GPS snapshot of

its location before shutdown too,

giving you a chance of recovery.

In terms of audio performance, the

BackBeat Go 810 remains a versatile

performer. It won’t give you the  ner

details or smooth delivery of the top

performers, but it does well enough

that you’ll likely enjoy

yourself no matter what’s

on your playlist.

Putting on a recording of

the unplugged version of

Hotel California, we found

that the BackBeat Go 810

delivered a nice, clean

rendition. The bass was

tighter than what we got on

the Live 650 BT, but there

was still enough body to

move the piece along.

Moving on to a recording of Girl like

You by Maroon 5, the BackBeat Go

810 did well to keep up with this faster

moving piece, with good weight to the

vocals, centring the piece.

It’s only on big pieces like Guns N

Roses’ Sweet Child O’ Mine where the

BackBeat Go 810 struggles to keep

up to the competition, as it just lacks

the imaging capabilities of the top

headphones in this shootout.
