A special-order 1970 Buick GS
Stage 1 that’s the only one like it
known to be built—and has been
off the road for 40 years—is
undergoing the final stages of
a longtime restoration, with the
goal of debuting at the Muscle
Car and Corvette Nationals
(MCACN) in Chicago.

Corporation engineer Joe
Guzek, it was sprayed Cinnamon
Firemist, a Cadillac-exclusive
color that took some cajoling
to pull off. The same went for
the unique, 3.91-geared axle
that wasn’t the standard B-O-P
10-bolt. After taking delivery,
Guzek installed a set of custom
15x8.5-inch Motor Wheel Spyder
wheels, which were wider than
any off-the-shelf versions, to fill
out the Buick’s wheelhouses and
ensure a firm footprint on the
street.
The car was a regular on Lan-
sing, Michigan’s street scene for
the first few years, before Guzek
parked it. (The original, special-
order axle didn’t hold its guts.)
Life intervened after that, and
the car sat for 30 years or so be-
fore a restoration was attempt-
ed, starting with bodywork and
a respray of the Cadillac color.
Another 10 years have
passed, but with the guidance of
Bob Reeve at Carshine Restora-
tions, the one-off GS is on track
for completion. We’re planning
a complete look at the car when
it’s finished and, as long as the
resto deadlines are met, it will be
on display at MCACN, November

Dodge has introduced a new
Octane Edition to the 2019
Charger SRT Hellcat lineup
that the maker says features a
“blacked-out” treatment inside
and out. Available with either
Pitch Black or White Knuckle ex-
terior paint, the Octane Edition
adds a full-length satin black
stripe, black exterior badging,a satin black decklid spoiler,
low-gloss black 20-inch wheels,
and a black-on-black instru-
ment panel badge. A few red
accents—the Brembo brake cali-
pers, interior stitching, and seat-
belts—add to the dramatic look.
The $1,495 package is available
for dealer order now, and cars
will be available in the fall.
